What is HCG?
HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) is a glycoprotein composed of 234 amino acids that is produced during pregnancy. The HCG diet has been the subject of clinical studies throughout the years. Initial studies were performed by A.T.W. Simeons in 1954. Simeons hypothesized that HCG, along with a very low calorie diet, helped fat reduction and weight loss. There are two options for this diet; a 21 day or a 42 day regimen that is determined based on the amount of weight you would like to lose. You will receive daily injections (or oral doses) of HCG and specific food choices while on the diet. Our patients on average lose 1/2 pound to 1 pound per day. This program is designed to reduce weight rapidly and may not be appropriate for all people.
At your first visit, our medical provider will discuss this program option and decide if you are a candidate. *This weight reduction treatment includes the injection of HCG, a drug which has not been approved by the Food and Drug Administration as safe and effective in the treatment of obesity or weight control. Results not guaranteed. There is no substantial evidence that HCG increases weight loss beyond that resulting from a calorie-restricted diet that may cause a more attractive or “normal” distribution of fat, or that it decreases the hunger and discomfort associated with calorie-restrictive diets.
