What Foundayo Is
Foundayo is the brand name for orforglipron, a once-daily tablet from Eli Lilly approved by the FDA on April 1, 2026 for chronic weight management in adults with obesity, or adults who are overweight with at least one weight-related condition. It is used together with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.
It belongs to the same class as Wegovy and Zepbound — GLP-1 receptor agonists — which work by reducing appetite, slowing stomach emptying, and helping you feel full on less food.
Why the Pill Matters
For many patients the injection is the obstacle, not the medication. Foundayo removes it.
It is also the only GLP-1 pill that can be taken at any time of day, with or without food, and without water restrictions. Oral semaglutide requires specific timing on an empty stomach with limited water and a wait before eating. Foundayo does not. For patients with unpredictable schedules — shift workers, parents, anyone who has failed a medication because of the routine rather than the drug — that difference decides whether treatment actually gets taken.
What the Studies Showed
In a 72-week study of adults with obesity or overweight without diabetes, average weight loss was:
- 7.4% of body weight at the 5.5 mg dose
- 8.3% at 9 mg
- 11.1% at 17.2 mg
- 2.1% for placebo
Individual results vary. Weight loss with any GLP-1 depends heavily on reaching and tolerating an effective dose, which is the part most patients struggle with on their own.
Important Safety Information
Foundayo may cause thyroid C-cell tumors, including medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC). Do not take Foundayo if you or any family member has ever had MTC, or if you have Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2). Tell your provider about any lump or swelling in the neck, hoarseness, trouble swallowing, or shortness of breath.
Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting and constipation, most often when starting or increasing the dose. Foundayo should not be used with other GLP-1 receptor agonist medications. It is not for cosmetic weight loss, and it has not been studied in children.

How is Foundayo different from Wegovy or Zepbound?
Foundayo is a daily pill; Wegovy and Zepbound are weekly injections. In clinical trials the injectables produced greater average weight loss, but the best medication is the one you will actually take consistently. We will talk through which fits your situation.

Tell us. Nausea is common when starting or increasing a GLP-1, and it is usually manageable by adjusting the pace of your titration. This is exactly what the weekly contact is for — you should not be deciding alone whether to push through it.
Can I switch from an injectable?
Often, yes. Foundayo should not be taken alongside another GLP-1, so any transition is planned and supervised.
