All skin types
Traditional lasers struggle with darker skin, because they target pigment and can’t always tell the difference between the pigment in the hair and the pigment in the skin. That’s why a lot of people have been turned away, or treated somewhere they shouldn’t have been.
We treat all skin types. If you’ve been told you’re not a candidate, come in — the answer here may be different.
Where we treat
All areas. Face, underarms, arms, legs, back, chest, bikini and Brazilian.
The intimate areas often take a few extra sessions — the hair there is coarser and more hormonally driven than elsewhere. That’s normal and we’ll tell you up front rather than after you’ve paid for a package.
How many sessions
Six to eight for most areas. More for the bikini and Brazilian area.
The reason it takes a series is that hair grows in cycles, and the laser only affects follicles that are actively growing at the time of treatment. Spacing sessions out catches the follicles that were dormant last time. There’s no way to shortcut it, and anywhere promising results in two visits is describing something other than how hair grows.
Come without a tan
This is the one rule that matters.
No sun exposure for two weeks before your appointment, and no obvious tan. A tan changes how your skin absorbs the laser energy, and treating tanned skin risks burns and pigment changes. We will reschedule you if you show up tanned — not to be difficult, but because treating you that day could hurt you.
Plan your course around vacations, and wear sunscreen throughout. In Corona that takes some thought.
What to expect
Shave the area beforehand — don’t wax, pluck or use depilatory creams for several weeks, since the laser needs the follicle intact to work.
Sessions are quick and there’s no downtime. Some mild redness afterward is normal and settles fast.
Hair sheds over the following one to three weeks. That’s the treated follicles releasing, not regrowth.
Who shouldn’t have it
Not for anyone pregnant or breastfeeding, anyone recently tanned or sun-exposed, anyone with an active infection or open skin at the treatment site, or anyone on a medication that causes light sensitivity.
